When building a Pond or Pool with the intention to swim in the water you must have a pump that is above groundor in-line.Submersible pumps are only for pond and water features that are not intended for swimming. Remember that electrical issues happen and the last thing you want is any type of live wire within a large body of water that could potentially electrocute or harm your friends and family.
All of our recommended Pentair brand pumps can withstand most outdoor elements (some extreme cold temperatures may need specific care), and can be left our in the open exposed to the elements. We like putting a wooden screen, or building a pump box around our plumbing supplies to be aesthetically pleasing.
Wooden screen: open-ended for maintenance, but hidden from the view from the house
Wooden pump box partially submerged in the ground, plumbing fully hidden from view.
Choosing the Right Pump
It is important to choose the correct pump and correct number of pumps to properly circulate your water. It is optimal to have all of the water circulate through your pump and filtration system four times per day, so having a pump with the right motor based on your NSP gallon size is important. If you know which pump (or pumps) you need you can email us directly or go to our pumps page to get a quote. Don't know what kind of pump you need? Email us and we can help you figure out which pump will be best for your project needs.
*We order most of our pumps on a project to project basis, so expect a 3 week lead time for deliveries*
